Melodic Canvas

Evan Alderton finds inspiration in nature and the dark to create an indie folk sound with Melodic Canvas. As he and his wife travel to national parks and around their home state of Michigan, going on hikes and spending time outside Alderton, taking note of the feelings provoked by nature to create music and visual art.

Melodic Canvas is in the mixing process of a currently untitled album. The album continues to play into the influence of nature but is more sonically accessible than previous Melodic Canvas albums. This new album will have a familiar yet exciting updated sound for old fans. Alderton explained that they make music for road trips: music fit to watch the scenery on your drive. With Melodic Canvas' new lineup with Alderton, the founding member on vocals and guitar, Steven Axtell on guitar, Lane Butler on bass, and Brain Mohr on drums: the goal is to put out one to three singles with the album following this summer.

As they make their new album, Melodic Canvas is working towards reaching a wider audience by playing shows in and near their Northern Michigan hometown. As an artist who cannot imagine doing anything else, Alderton and his bandmates aim to make a living off what they create through Melodic Canvas. They hope their listeners like the energy their music and stage presence bring and want to hear from them. They hope listeners can pick up on inspiration without sounding too derivative: familiar and welcoming, but not copied.
