Men I Trust: Live at The Crystal Ballroom

The Crystal Ballroom is one of Portland's most popular venues rich with history the venue is known for its springy floor. The floor is built on springs to give concertgoers a weightless experience while they dance along with their favorite bands. The venue's ornate crown molding, murals, intricate light fixtures, and preservation of history create a setting that feels like going to a concert in a museum.

After concert attendees shuffled up to the third floor Feng Suave took the stage; successfully warming up the crowd with their airy electric pop sound. Their set was well received, being met with warm applause and cheers.

Men I Trust came on after a brief intermission and a shuffling of equipment. The band began to win the crowd over with their dreamy eclectic pop. Earning extremely supportive applause when the crowd was informed that their bassist had suffered from a concussion that morning. Playing a show with a brain injury did not seem to phase Men I Trust as they moved smoothly through their setlist. The music, while mellow, held a high energy that reflected in the crowd. Each song blended together seamlessly. Fluidity is always good, but a setlist that blends too much can start to drag on. Men I Trust kept their set from becoming redundant with their last few songs.

Men I Trust plays a smooth set with minimal crowd interaction which seems to work perfectly for their fans. Except for a brief introduction, a few "thank yous" between the songs, and the initial lowdown of band injuries they did not chat or interact with the crowd outside of their music.

With a big "Thank You Portland", Men I Trust exited the stage and the lights went out. The audience cheered enthusiastically knowing they would be back. As the band reentered and launched into the first song of their encore the applause did not halt. The energy and tempo were much higher and fast-paced as they closed out the show.
