Scout Harris

Scout Harris is a duo that was born as a project by Gabriella Tessitore; Scout Harris began as a few songs that she wrote alone with her guitar. She brought these songs with her when she moved across the country from Brooklyn to Portland where she met Rick Harris, who has joined Scout Harris on percussion. The pair have described their music style as, "weaving honest vocals with dynamic melodies, crunchy guitar lines and sprinkled synth magic." This sound stems from their backgrounds in wildly different genres: jazz, punk, folk, and rock.

Scout Harris regularly plays shows around Portland. At their shows, you are sure to experience a very welcoming atmosphere. Tessitore cracks jokes and shares about her day between songs, she shares tidbits about the writing process of the songs or the inspiration that lead to the creation of the song. Both musicians stress the importance of connection, they both continue to play shows and intentionally carve out time to create all through working multiple jobs and juggling busy schedules. As an audience member, you can feel that connection being made. Through their music and their outward appreciation of your presence. Scout Harris views music as a conversation. They get to share emotions and stories with the listener and as the listener, you get to interpret and feel those emotions with them. Everyone involved gets to walk away with an honest human connection; something that was lost during the last two years of covid and is now even more valuable than before.

Harris stresses the importance of music; how you grow emotionally through the creation or even listening to someone else's music and feeling an emotion that you did not even know you felt or for that matter, knew how to feel. Scout Harris' goal is to continue to grow and connect with anyone who listens to them or plays with them. They are currently maintaining this goal by recording new music. They spent a week at Suttle Lodge writing and recording new music. One of these songs is on track to be out by the end of the year while the rest of the songs will follow in the coming year. They are taking their shows as an opportunity to test out the new music, change what they decide they do not like, see what is received well, and overall make sure the end product is something they are proud of.
