Humaneyes

Jake Ellis, Robert O'Neill, Corwin Farquhar, Raphael Cortada, and Sam Coe put their diverse musical backgrounds together to create pop-punk in their band, Humaneyes. They aim to make music a career, but in the meantime, Humaneyes are having fun playing music with their friends.

Ellis had a couple of hobbies as a kid that led him to music: skating and video games. So he was reeled into music when he heard the Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtrack. Skating culture got him into the punk and metal scene and his dad introduced him to the roots of that scene by sharing his CDs; including Nirvana, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, and Alice In Chains. Metallica stuck with Ellis as he began to develop his taste in music and find his inspiration. When he began playing guitar in seventh grade he wanted to play metalcore, but that evolved to pop-punk and shoe gaze and his playing is now more in line with Gleemer and Holy Fawn.

Farquhar was influenced by his father to take music seriously. His vocal style and writing are influenced by Taking Back Sunday, Knuckle Punk, and Citizen.

O'Neill His music influence evolution began with the classic rock legends like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Police, and U2; the typical lineup of favorites that anyone's dad who is into rock n roll shares with their kids. From there O'Neill started to get into heavier, harder music when he began to figure out his taste in music. Now he listens to a lot of pop-punk and is inspired by that genre, but keeps an open mind and pallet by listening to a wide range of genres and styles.

Cortada comes from a musically inclined family that led him to pick up music as a hobby. He spent his childhood engulfed in every genre of music possible and going to local shows. He quickly gave up school sports for the local punk and metal shows that inspired him to play like the bands whose shows he was attending. Nearly any band he has listened to and connected with has influenced his playing in one way or another.

Coe was surrounded by people who loved music growing up; his dad with U2 tapes or a friend who listened to hardcore and metal. While grieving the loss of a friend Coe found what it means to love music and he found what he likes and is inspired by.

All these influences are apparent in Humaneyes music. By the end of 2022, they will have a new EP out that has a tighter sound that is still heavily influenced by everything they have always been influenced by and more. The six-song EP features their new singer and a new drummer; these two additions have made a difference in what direction their sound is going. Their new sound is more structured. Humaneyes happily reported that they feel as though they have found their sound with their new members.
