Norm Allport

Norm Allport is a music enthusiast to his core. In every conversation he has his love of music will come up. He has spent the better part of his three decades figuring out why he makes music and why he is so involved in it. Allport has an almost calculated answer ready to go when people ask him "Why a career in music?"; he says "Music has a way of conveying thoughts, feelings and emotions to people who have never had them". A reason that he proves with any project he might be working on, during worship sets, and even when he is talking to his friends about new music gear he has gotten to play with.

Since Allport has begun playing music there has been an evolution in what he likes to listen to; as a result, an evolution in his own playing style. He is now listening to and creating sound that he would have thought was dumb ten years ago all because he listened to music that he would not have picked out on his own all because he has had exposure to other people's preferred music. Allport says, "[I] live in the fibers of shoegaze and alternative rock, mixed into trying to explore other genres in the same lens".

Allport works at Summit View Church as a Tech Director. He gets to put his passion and talents as a guy who understands how every part of music works on display in a service forward job. He gets what it's like to be the guy on stage, which he is from time to time, but he also gets what it is like to be the guy behind the scenes. He put his passion in every bit of his work regardless of if he is in front of, behind or in the crowd. At work Allport gets to use his skills to help convey the feelings and emotions of a band rather than what he feels. He has fun in finding how to bring other's emotions to the forefront while ensuring the sound remains balanced. Before he landed his current position Allport spent about ten years part time, on the road where he got to be on stage and help others troubleshoot and set up gear in order to ensure their sound is spot on. He brings the skills learned on the road to Summit View Church.
