A.M. Sokoll

Sokoll grew up with a passion and interest for music. He always knew it would be a part of his life because simply put: it just feels right. Most musicians can pinpoint the time they got into music, or at least when they started listening intentionally rather than passively listening. Sokoll has several of these pinpoint moments where he felt music "clicked" with him. Music has been a constant that has never failed him. It provides unlimited expression, allowing Sokoll to convey any emotion at any given time.

As a product of his Detroit roots Sokoll finds inspiration in soul, jazz and funk music. One of his biggest inspirations is renown pianist Stevie Wonder; the way Wonder was able to hold a sound that is very true to him while dipping into multiple different genres has been a driving force in how Sokoll creates his own sound. He also looks to Queen and Elton John for performance and sound influences, saying they are a group of musicians who knew how to put on a show without sacrificing their sound for the sake of performance. Since moving across the country Sokoll has shifted where he looks for inspiration, while still finding inspiration in his roots, he has allowed electronic music to sway the style of his production. Lyrically Sokoll lets psychology inspire him. He finds that mental health is a good topic to write about as it effects everyone.

Sokoll hopes to take all these inspirations and continue to ride out his biggest goal: being comfortable as an artist. This goal has already been achieved, but he hopes to stay comfortable within the space he has created for himself in his art.

Sokoll has been working on his first full length record; he is nearly finished and has yet to make a formal announcement of the album. The album is named and a release date is set, but he is withholding that bit of information until he has made a proper announcement. Sokoll shares that the record was inspired by a segment of therapy sessions where he was beginning to question who he is as a person. The record reflects upon this "[spark of] existential panic" and how it has changed his life for the better.
