Garden Fresh Beats

Ben Quick grew up in the classical music world; his father was a professional bassoon player, so music was always around Quick. He saw his father putting in hours upon hours of practice while he practiced guitar for a few hours a week. He became frustrated with himself for not being a better musician while not really wanting to put in the time to become better. In his frustration he decided to put his energy into making joke songs to distract himself from how slowly he was progressing. In college Quick took to musical comedy. His act was equal parts standup and music.

Willie Mays has never truly been a musician, but rather a comedian. He did however, grow up in a small town so he had to find something to do. In the search for entertainment he found that Quick and a friend were making music. The trio made a joke song for fun and this got the ball rolling on Garden Fresh Beats.

Most of Quick's songs are good live, but do not translate well over recording. During the pandemic he has not been able to play shows so he was hesitant to release any of his music. Inspired to do something and just be busy, he has begun to focus on making songs that translate his jokes through recording a bit better. He reached out to Mays, his right hand funny-man, to end Garden Fresh Beats' decade long hiatus.

Garden Fresh Beats is back with a song that is accompanied by a music video, titled O.T.M.M.O. (Over The Mask Make Out). The song is the first single from their album. The song started out as a joke, a variation of a bit of a dirty middle school joke, but with a twist that is more a sign of the times. A hook was written, video ideas were discussed, a director was found and a video featuring a couple as well as Mays and Quick making out with face masks on. The video is over the top, silly and just the right amount of uncomfortable. This video has set in motion inspiration for more videos, songs, projects and an album.

The members of Garden Fresh Beats have become tired of most art nowadays having a hidden agenda so they have set out to create music that is fun, goofy, far from serious and "immature in the right ways". In addition to O.T.M.M.O. Garden Fresh Beats will be releasing an album that will continue their commentary on pants (the band has a couple songs dedicated to their love of pants) as well as new jokes. All the upcoming music will be produced by Quick; the music is fairly simple as it serves as a "wallpaper to the jokes". Since their hiatus began their writing ability has grown and they have found a more coherent sound.
