Wax Romantics

Collin Orr grew up around music; his father is a guitarist so music was always playing in his childhood home. In high school Orr noticed his friend who played guitar earned the attention of a lot of girls. So Orr did what any teenage boy would do: he learned guitar. Eventually he found more in music than the attention of his female classmates. He began helping his dad's band, doing sound at their shows. When it was time for him to chose what to major in when he went to college he choose music production. After he graduated from college he moved back to Colorado where he currently makes music with Keaton Nalezny. The duo make up Wax Romantics.

Wax Romantics have a 1980's Brit-pop, synth driven sound. The lyrics are never about a specific situation, person or emotion. Orr writes what he is feeling, the lyrics end up being indirectly influenced by the world around him. Wax Romantics values the visual side of their music just as much as their sound. Orr strives to create cohesion between visuals, sound, lyrics, and album art.

Wax Romantics was created when Orr moved back to his home state and began going to school again for a second degree. Orr was seeking a creative outlet and found it making music with Nalezny. Orr began writing and eventually found that he had a small collection of songs that carried a similar theme. Upon the realization of this theme he decided he wanted to have a finished product. So Wax Romantics' first EP,  Heart of Wax, was born. Since this was not meant to be a long lived project Orr did not tell anyone about Wax Romantics' debut EP. He was simply happy to have his own version of a time capsual of that period of his life.

Wax Romantics have their second EP out on Valentines Day 2021. The EP is titled Nail Biter in Pinky Land; the EP shares a title with an episode of Spongebob. The fascination with the title began when Orr thought the words sounded funny together, but he took it a bit further and made up a narrative based on those four words: what if there was a land full of pinky fingers- a nail biter would be quite the issue there. He found that his story fit the dark narrative of the EP. The world at large and the pure chaos that society seems to be in has indirectly influenced Orr as he wrote the EP. Orr did not try to make on the world's problems as he wrote it, rather take on his own problems and work through them.
