twentylove

twentylove is a solo project spearheaded by Dan Burke. While twentylove is a solo project, Burke plays with a backing band and has no intentions of ever playing completely solo.

Burke spent his youth listening to punk bands. There were few things to do in his tiny hometown in Connecticut besides playing music and skating. Since punk rock goes hand in hand with skating, he gravitated towards the subculture that is tied with punk. "Thirteen year old me was trying to be like Travis Barker," recalls Burke. "And music always seemed like [the] most exciting way to express myself." This has shaped his current sound, which feels reminiscent of 90's alternative, with a touch of modernity.

Burke finds quite a lot of inspiration in being in a big city. "The pace- I find it so interesting how the world spins around you there," he explains. Like most kids who grew up in small towns, everything about being in a city amazes him. The location gives you the ability to be surrounded by people while still remaining completely alone. Taking this inspiration with him, Burke aims to continue growing as an artist; sharing his progress with each song he releases. "Being a better musician and songwriter has always been something I'm working at," says Burke. "And I haven't stopped running."

twentylove's newest single 'so pretty' is a commentary on the protests that have been occurring in Los Angeles. The song was written with Jayden Seeley of ‘With Confidence’ and Will Ventres. In general, twentylove's sound is inspired by bands that are able to be just as creative visually as they are sonically. Burke's personal favorite bands are Blink-182 and The 1975, with their heavy inspiration evident in shaping twentylove’s sound.
