Samuel Kinsella

Samuel Kinsella was raised in an incredibly artistic family. His mother is an illustrator and painter, his father a graphic designer, and his younger brother an aspiring animator. Kinsella's interest in art began as a child with drawing. He would draw portraits that told a story; and this love of storytelling turned into writing screenplays. When he was done writing he decided he wanted to bring his stories to life, so he began to dip his toes into film making. In the process of making his films it dawned on him that his films needed a soundtrack; Kinsella began to get into music so he could have his soundtracks done exactly as he wanted. "Music had always played a large role in my life, but after that moment it became a central pillar of who I am," explained Kinsella.

Kinsella creates his music all on his own. He finds it incredibly rewarding to act as the writer, musician, and producer. Doing all the work makes finishing a project that much more satisfying. His music reflects the artists he finds inspiration in: Fleet Foxes, Radiohead, Bon Iver, Beck and many more artists. However, his biggest inspiration comes from his own thoughts, both waking or asleep. Kinsella's dreams provide him with quite a bit of material to work with while he is writing. In fact he is working on a project that is strongly inspired by his dreams. The project's release is uncertain.

In May, Kinsella released a record called Posing for Nobody; which serves as a self-reflection of his personal growth. He began making the record when the world was fairly normal, but it was finished in quarantine. Kinsella immediately began working on his next album, Why Do The Good Things Go. When he began writing he was heavily feeling the negativity of the world, what with everyone constantly saying ‘it’s the end of the world as we know it’. Why Do The Good Things Go  began as an angsty record that reflected the anger and fear the world was feeling, often asking more questions than what it would answer. During the writing process, Kinsella realized that was not the message he wanted to present to the world. Everyone had enough bad news coming at them, and he felt he did not need to add to the negativity. The message of the record, now positive, preaches to the listener to also stay positive in these hard times. "It assures us that the day isn't over, that there's more to be. That we are everything we've made,"  Kinsella said. "...That we shouldn't lose our hope. I hope that resonates with people. It's all been of immense importance to me. I’m incredibly proud of it." Why Do The Good Things Go's positive message is sure to lift the spirits of the listeners.
