Lady Denim

Nick Lundeen began playing James Taylor and John Mayer covers with his guitar as a way to impress girls. In his journey to become a ladies-man with his guitar, he found a general curiosity about what music had to offer. Lundeen took guitar lessons with a church group who was made up of mostly older women. His goal of impressing ladies with soft, folky music has defined the way he writes and plays saying "I am a firm believer in the idea that what you listen to shapes you as a person, whether that be intentional or not,". As a songwriter, he looks to artists like Andy Shauf and Phoebe Bridgers. Music has the power to make a situation better, Lundeen tries to keep as much positivity as possible in his music. "Music has gotten me out of some really bad parts in my life, both mentally and emotionally," explains Lundeen. While he is all about keeping his music as positive as possible, he understands negative emotions need to be expressed as well.

Nic Lubin has a vivid memory of downloading music from Limewire and imagining he was playing those songs on a stage. "I knew that was my destiny and it was just a matter of time before it came into fruition," recalls Lubin. His older brother and bandmate, Chris Lubin, taught him his first chords which he applied while learning Bon Iver songs. His playing and writing is still heavily influenced by Bon Iver seeing as the band’s music has been a huge part of Lubins life in many ways. Lubin also looks to Pinegrove and The 1975 for inspiration. Music can make the listener physically feel an emotion which is why Lubin is drawn to music. With his band he aims to provide listeners with a "groovy jam" to associate with a positive memory.

Besides teaching his little brother a few chords, Chris Lubin has been making music of his own since he began drumming at six years old. A few years later he took up guitar, and began classical guitar lessons at age nine. For eight years he had a rotating cast of guitar tutors. He was able to teach himself bass with everything he had learned on guitar. Lubin is always looking to expand his skills as a musician. He does so by dipping into his creativity and helping make the grooviest songs he can with his bandmates. Lubin sees music as, "a way to communicate feelings, to process the internal monologue".

When he was about seven years old Matthias Mandl would play a tape recording of the radio and jam out on his toy drum set. He would imagine he was headlining a big festival like Glastonbury. Music has always given Mandl an outlet to simply let go; using this outlet and seeing others use the same outlet brings him great joy. The way music can bring the listener back to a specific moment or pull them into a specific feeling is by far, regardless of how cliche it may be, Mandl's favorite aspect of music.

Together these four musicians make up Lady Denim. The band was formed by Lundeen and Nic Lubin who were roommates that both happened to be musicians. They enlisted the help of Lubin's brother, Chris Lubin, to help with the recording of their first song: 'Pipe Dream'. Lubin had been playing in a folk band with Mandl. Mandl came along to help out with recording. Not long after the release of 'Pipe Dream' they got a show, which firmed up their line up. Since playing this show they have continued to create music and grow together as friends and musicians. Lady Denim is currently working on an album that will be released in "chapters". Each chapter will have a different theme and emotion to define it. The project has no set release date.
