Fake Nice

Utah based band Fake Nice creates an atmosphere of absolute happiness with their music. They have a summery indie pop rock sound that comes across as happy, even if the lyrics are not super cheery. While Fake Nice does not have a ton of music out yet they have already strongly established their sound.

The band was formed by guitarist and vocalist Chase Ford and drummer and vocalist Lily Gertler who had been together for quite sometime before Fake Nice was formed. Gertler sat down at the drum set at Ford's home where they discovered she was a natural on the set. The pair used to play live shows with their friend Trevor Larson on bass; Larson has since "sold out" for a fancy job in San Francisco.

Fake Nice's most recent single, 'City Trash', was released in late September. The lack of their usual promotional show created a complete lack of deadline so they were able to become incredibly picky with the song: spending months changing tiny parts of it.  'City Trash' will be followed by its music video in the near future.

Inspiration for Fake Nice comes from Motown hits of the 1960's from groups like The Supremes, The Temptations and The Four Tops. The bit of an edge in their generally soft music comes from bands of the punk persuasion out of the 1960's and 70's; groups like The Velvet Underground, The Stooges and Modern Lovers. In terms of more modern bands, Fake Nice finds their inspiration in Parquet Courts, Wilco, and Pavement. In addition to the lengthy list of bands they find particularly inspiring Fake Nice leans heavily into films as a source of inspiration.
