Cody Mauser

Cody Mauser makes music because he feels like he has to. "There's always a constant need to write and create," explains Mauser. "It's the best form of expression and cheapest therapy that someone in my disposition could afford." Mauser uses his own personal form of therapy to create a pop sound that is expressive of his emotions. His music allows him to get both out, or deeper into his own head.

Mauser knew he was meant to make music the second he began learning guitar. He had always had a connection with music as a listener but was fearful to pick up an instrument. He had an idea that only the best of the best could be musicians. He soon found that everyone has to start somewhere and has redefined his preconceived notion that he was not good enough to be a musician. Through hours of hard work in high school, Mauser was able to teach himself guitar. "I had a big guitar chord chart hung on my wall and I would just pick them off the chart and see how they sounded," recalls Mauser.

Mauser’s goal is to continue growing as an artist while making sure the process of growth and creating is still fun. He pushes himself to grow as he learns new writing styles or experiments with writing from an angle he normally would not. "I like dissecting songs and figuring out how things work and don't work," says Mauser. He finds much musical inspiration by going on walks, which give him space to organize his thoughts. Mauser describes his cathartic process as "...walking helps get my creativity flowing".

Mauser is planning on releasing two stand-alone singles by the end of 2020. "I wanted the songs to sound like Otis Redding meets Isaac Hayes and Willie Hutch," says Mauser. He has hopes of releasing an album titled Pop Pleasure in spring of 2021. Creating this solo album was not an intentional process.

Mauser plays in two bands: New Attractions and The Rich Hands. Being home gave him time to create a few demos that became his first solo album, Fake Love Songs
