Charles Connoly

Like many children destined to be musicians Charles Connolly grew up wanting to be a Beatle. His dream of becoming a Beatle has been held onto; the only difference is Connolly knows the chances are slim to none so he has taken matters into his own hands: becoming his own Beatle. Like his idols, Connolly does not believe in sticking to a genre. His music can be broadly defined as pop, but is far from just pop.

Connolly has been writing music for years. His first song was written when he was just 15 years old. Until this year all his hard work has gone unreleased. This year Connolly finally decided it was time to put his own music out. He began his journey of releasing his music with a single titled 'Never Said Goodbye'. As a person who works best on his own Connolly did everything you hear on the track, even the female vocals. He is a strong believer in the human voice being an underrated and incredibly versatile instrument. "For my first official track I wanted the lead vocals to suit the darkness of the music," explains Connolly about 'Never Said Goodbye'. "So I put on a creepy sort of scrawny voice for the first verse. I then realized it had to have a female chorus- so I sang it a weird way and messed around with some settings." Experimenting with different settings during production allowed Connolly to manipulate his voice the way another artist might manipulate their guitar in a recording so it sounds just right.

Priding himself on originality Connolly is working hard to bring strong melodies back into modern pop. His inspiration stems from many different bands. Connolly is big on bands from the 1960's and 70's as this is what he grew up listening to. He also finds heavy inspiration in bands from the 90's that are essentially watered down versions of the bands from his father's era of music he holds so dearly. Other than the work of other musicians he doesn't truly have a source of inspiration. His brain was just made to make music. Once he has a theme or topic he wants to write about he will hear a song in his head and do his best to get it all down. However, Connolly's latest source of inspiration is his girlfriend. His next release, 'To See My Lover Again' is a ballad about his relationship with his girlfriend. The song covers the difficulties of a long distance relationship. 'To See My Lover Again' shows the versatility of Connolly's writing style; the song is not as slow and soft as the word "ballad" might lead listeners to believe.
