Middle Part

Andrew Selkōw uses Middle Part as a self reflective diary. As an extrovert who is "addicted to emotional stress" any experience is likely to trigger an idea that will eventually become a song.

Selkōw has been near music his entire life. Growing up his mother had an electric keyboard in the house that he was not allowed to touch. His mother eventually let him play the keyboard. Selkōw would use the recording feature on the keyboard then recorded guitar on his 4 track recorder and sang over it all, making his first songs. In high school he played guitar in various bands, but wanted to sing. Growing ever jealous of his band's lead singer, who would not let Selkōw sing, he practiced vocals as much as he could. He got to sing backing vocals in that band after putting in a lot of work.

Instead of being a big fan of artists or bands Selkōw is a fan of specific songs. The way people go absolutely insane for artists like Harry Styles, he does that with specific songs based on how they make him feel. There was a song he would listen to over and over skipping over a good chunk of the song to get to a part he loved. The feeling that one part of the song invoked felt irreplicable. Selkōw is always chasing a feeling like that. Stating that it's all about finding what you want the last thing you hear before you die to be.

Selkōw was sick of hearing indie artists sing about nothing of any importance or simply dull topics. He believes there is a necessity for artists to be real and relatable to their audience. For so long society has built up musicians as being godlike; the idyllic image people create of their favorite artists are unrealistic and damaging. Selkōw is extremely vulnerable in his music; music is the only way he knows how to express himself so he hopes listeners relate instead of putting him on a pedestal.

Middle Part delivers songs about various topics in the package of a breakup song. On October 13 Middle Part will be releasing a single titled Heartbeat. The song is all about the desire to feel whole, inspired by life experiences and other indie artists who actually have something to say. Of these artists are Still Woozy and Soccer Mommy. Heartbeat is incredibly sincere and important to Selkōw.
