Chronicles

Chronicles is David Lyon’s project: a project created for musicians by musicians. When the average person listens to Lyon’s music it might be a bit anxiety inducing as there is so much happening. For the best possible listening experience listeners should go into Chronicles with an open mind.

When Lyon was eight he was forced into piano lessons, which he hated. As soon as he was not forced into taking lessons he loved music. He began playing drums at age 10 and he loved it. Lyon wanted to make full songs so when he was 14 he picked up a guitar; from then on he has been creating as much as possible.

Lyon used to make music just because he thought it was cool, but making music became more of just seeing how good he would get. As he grew as a musician making music became something he wanted to do even if no one would listen to it. Lyon does not truly have any musical goals other than playing his music live with an orchestra. He knows there is always going to be a younger, better musician, so as long as he is making music and inspiring another musician Lyon will be happy.

The world is a chaotic place so Lyon makes music that is chaotic. Lyon takes in as much as he can and finds inspiration in everything.

Lyon writes music as a story and keeps pushing it past the story. His first record, The Forest- a concept album, began as a “dumb thought and it grew into something bigger than it should have,” said Lyon. The Forest was written in 2017 as an instrument album, but as Lyon was tracking the album and hiring a backing band he decided it needed vocals. The vocals are done by Wesley Berger of Ideology. Berger wrote the lyrics as well as mixed the record. The vocals battle for attention with the guitars. Lyon hired Travis Orbin of The Darkest Hour to play drums and Cam McLeallan of Protest the Hero on bass.

Lyon will be releasing a second concept album in 2021. He encourages other musicians to put out their music even if they do not feel confident about it. There is always going to be at least one person who likes your music.
