Grant Whitson

Grant Whitson is a touring and recording drummer. Any artist or any genre can hire him to play with them. Whitson got a taste for touring in 2015 when he got involved with the famous Vans Warped Tour. His itch for recording began when he was in high school and has been recording drum tracks since then.

Even before Whitson was getting paid to bang on his drums music was a huge part of his life. Both of Whitson's parents really love music so they passed that love of music down to their son. In 2007 when Whitson entered fifth grade his school made him decide if he wanted to be in band or choir. So for two years he played trumpet before switching to drums in seventh grade. This is about the time he bought his first album: Green Day's American Idiot. Whitson spent quite a bit of time drumming on his desk along to his new record. He soon got ahold of the live version of American Idiot where he saw his musical heroes having a blast. Really selling the fun for him was how cool TrĂ© Cool, Green Day's Drummer, looked. After this Whitson decided that playing drums would simply be the best. So his parents bought him a drum kit and he started taking lessons. In high school Whitson spent his time coming in and out of different bands.

Working as a touring and recording drummer allows Whitson to play all genres. Although he prefers to play pop-punk and indie. He likes the aspect of indie and synth pop that it can be super simple, but get super tough. Generally Whitson likes bands like Blink-182 and Green Day since those are the groups that really got him into music when he was in middle school. But he takes inspiration from bands of totally different genres, like The 1975. Whitson finds the way that The 1975 approaches the business side of music very interesting.

Working on a for hire basis as a musician also poses as a challenge. When he is hired to play with a band he typically has one rehearsal to figure out how to sound like he has been playing with the band since they formed. When he overcomes this challenge everything begins to click and the sound comes together in the most positive way.

Currently, with Whitson's home state of California still having strict lockdown rules he is not working with other musicians. Instead he is taking this time to practice and record in his home studio. The practice he is putting in right now will be helpful in fulfilling his goals of being able to provide for himself and one day his family with his music. As well as getting to interact with as many bands of as many genres as possible.

Whitson's drumming can be heard on his YouTube channel: Omfgrant. He can also be heard drumming on Arlington's 'Walk Through Jackson County'.
