Flaco

When Flaco was a freshman in college he was beginning to get fed up with higher education. The whole process felt a bit redundant to him so he was searching for an escape. This escape came from an unexpected place. One of Flaco's dorm mates invited some friends over to hang out. The friends drank and sang, unbeknownst to Flaco they were recording themselves. In awe of how they were able to create music without a studio Flaco asked about it; his dorm mate let him borrow his Mac to explore GarageBand. A while later Flaco recorded his own voice and got a feeling that this was his escape. Flaco was meant to make music.

Music has always been in Flaco's life. He is the son of two avid music lovers. His father listened to jazz and hiphop while his mother listened to everything. His parents taste of loving all types of music wore off on him. He was taught that good music is not confined to a genre and can be found anywhere, you just have to keep your ears and your mind open.

Flaco finds inspiration in a lot of artists of all genres: Julian Casablancas, Lil B, Tracy Thorn, etc. Even with the work of so many inspiring artists at his finger tips Flaco's own curiosity is his biggest inspiration. As strange as it may sound another main source of inspiration is cats. Specifically his cat, Brandon, who he says, "genuinely give[s] me a weird creative energy".

As a self taught artist and lover of all genres Flaco has developed his own music theories that set his sound apart from what DJs play on the Top 40. His sound can be described as "moody, minimal, [and] brash".

All the reasons Flaco makes music are self proclaimed as selfish. There is a high he feels after finishing a song. It's something special to be able to dance to something that did not exist anywhere, but his own head hours before. along with that high there is a compulsory aspect to making music; simply said Flaco is addicted to making music. Flaco works as a solo artist; playing only with a dj for live shows and refusing collaborations unless it feels completely organic. While he thrives on the selfishness being a solo artist allows, music helps him to connect with people and his music allows people to connect with each other.

Flaco's most recent single 'Laddle' was released in June. He was sent the production of by Mathaius Young. The lyrics practically wrote themselves after he listened to Young's work. Flaco happened to be in a particularly moody and frustrated state when he wrote 'Laddle' which bled through into the song. "But trust me, like all the music I've made it's written from a subconscious place and it's really there for the listener to attach their own meaning to," explained Flaco.

Flaco holds the superficial goals that most artists have: to become the biggest hiphop artist and to be able to make a living from his art. He also holds less superficial goals: receiving the validation that his taste in music is actually as good as he thinks it is and that people get his music.
