Espresso

The members of Espresso grew up together in La Crescenta, California; a town that seriously lacks a music scene. Espresso had to find their scene by playing any gig they could get. Finally the band found their groove in the LA DIY punk scene. While Espresso’s music is a bit more groovy and funky than what one typically hears from LA based DIY punk bands, their energy matches without a flaw.

Espresso was formed during their senior year of high school as a three piece. Since then the band has become a four piece with Dashel Dupuy on guitar, Arden Gourdikian on drums, Alex Gutierrez-Kovner on bass and Colin Martin on vocals and guitar.

While they have been playing together for roughly ten years, every musician in Espresso has loved music before the band got together. Martin has always been surrounded by music. His grandfather introduced him to loads of traditional music; he began playing music when he was about 12 years old. Gutierrez-Kovner got into music with his cousins, as they played rock band together they thought it might be more fun in real life instead of a video game. Dupuy’s family played a huge part in his love of music. His parents played music around the house a lot. When he was seven his uncle gifted him an acoustic guitar. He seems to have had a hard time putting guitars down since he then. Gourdikian’s friends claim he came right out of the womb playing drums.

As a band Espresso values getting to be around other creative people. The creativity is contagious, being around other creatives helps the members of Espresso to be inspired. Everyone in the band has their own sources of inspiration, at first this caused a bit of an eclectic sound. Since forming they have worked hard to grow. Their hard work has paid off since they have found a sound that works well for them. Espresso mixes inspiration from bands like The Doors, The Clash and Red Hot Chili Peppers with the emotions evoked by looking at the state of the world to create a groove driven punk sound that suits Espresso’s personal taste and attitudes.

Espresso hopes their distinct sound can carry them to the point that allows them to sustain a rock n roll life style. The band also hopes to simply play as many live shows as they can.
