Sam Appleby

When Sam Appleby was 12 years old he got a hold of his fathers acoustic guitar. A year later he was gifted his very own guitar. His love for the instrument has only grown since.
When Appleby was in high school he played with a band. This band pushed him to pursue music as a career. The band started as a jam session with a couple of his friends. While the group was at best average they pushed each other to get better. The jam session eventually turned into a full fledged band that played covers at local bars. Along with this band and other guitarists at his school, Appleby was extremely motivated to become a stronger player.
While Appleby played in his high school band he did not really listen to music besides what he was playing. When the band chose a song to cover he would listen to it enough to learn it, but beyond that he was not listening to much on his own. Appleby eventually got out of the habit of not listening. Since breaking out of simply not listening, he has attained influence from and appreciation for many artists. Appleby began listening to Foo Fighters albums all the way through, on repeat. Now Appleby listens to "loads more with groovy rhythms and jazzed up chords."
The motivation to become a stronger player grew during Appleby's gap year. Appleby decided to take a year off from school seeing as his band was a bit younger than him and he wanted time to fully dedicate to making music. With each opportunity Appleby turned down to focus on his craft he began to see music as an attainable career path. He moved his plans around and got a spot at university to study music.
Appleby is constantly taking down notes in his phone when an idea strikes or he hears a phrase that could easily be translated into a song. The way he writes has changed over the years. Appleby used to focus more on writing themes of social criticism, but now he uses his music as more of an outlet to express personal emotions. His songs music usually starts off as a chord progression that he stumbles upon while jamming. Then feeling what emotion the music conveys he adds his lyrics.
Appleby is currently working on an album that he hopes to have out by the end of the year.
