Maxwell Landry
Maxwell Landry has gained a following by posting a 30 day challenge on TikTok. He takes random phrases and makes a short song using the phrase. Some of the phrases are metaphors that are easy to fall back on when writing. Other phrases are simply things that pop up during the day. Landry saw Paterverse doing a similar challenge and thought it would be a good way to stay productive during quarantine. At the end of the 30 days Landry plans on choosing his top ten favorite songs he’s made and reworking them into full length songs creating an album.
Each song Landry writes, regardless of the phrase it is based around, has a heavy 1970’s feel. He looks to the music that his inspiration’s have found inspiration in. He believes if you like the way someone sounds and would like to create music with a similar sound a person must find out how that sound was created. In order to figure that out one needs to look at the inspiration behind the song. The artists that Landry enjoys seem to imitate the 70’s sound in a modern way, much like his own music; so, he takes into account the artist that they wanted to sound like. With this in mind, it is important to Landry to create a sound that is his own. Landry loves the feeling that artists like Bill Whithers and Carol King invoke in him. These artists created songs that have stood the test of time. Which is just what he aims to do.
When Landry writes he tends to write about relationships: platonic and romantic. A theme that is understood and indirect in a way that it becomes more universal. His songs are about things he has learned about himself as well as completely made up senerios.
Eventually Landry wants to seriously pursue a career in music. Fame is not his goal, even though he has the chops to make it, he just hopes to make enough money with his music that he can financially support his future family. Landry would like to produce and play with others. Maybe even inspire someone. He knows how much he looks up to the artist who have inspired him and hopes he can be like that for a kid someday.
