Kythira

Alyssia Gengos was listening to Grimes in high school. Inspired, she began to make experimental synth pop. Her taste in music evolved as she saw other kids form fairly successful bands. Around this time she began her solo project, Kythira.
Gengos took Kythira with her to college, but was more focused on the New Wave band, Gold Metal, she had formed with three seniors. Influenced by her new band she began to be more inspired by New Wave. This new found source of inspiration led her to write some post-punk inspired guitar parts. Eventually the New Wave sound found it's way into Kythira; which at the moment was not Gengos' top priority.
After graduation Gengos was left as a sophomore with no band and began to give Kythira her full attention. Finding inspiration in art and fashion; specifically the artists who found themselves tangled up with musicians. The New York scene of the 1970's has been a driving force for Kythira. The artists have swayed more than just her music. Gengos admits to taking fashion cues from the "stereotypical male guitar-wielding  star types". She also seems to take heavy musical cues from these same stars as she is already on her way to becoming a star, just like she's always wanted.
Since college Grengos' taste in music has continued to evolve. Now she looks to any artist who hung around the Laurel Canyon Scene of the 1960's and 70's. This scene included the Doors and Steely Dan. A lot of the bands who were a part of this scene blended jazz with pop and rock.
Kythira is in the demo phase of creating another album that is set to be out in the coming year at the earliest. Grengos is taking her solo project away from the bedroom pop sound, while still recording "pop-minded" music from her bedroom. This record will feature live drum tracks instead of the drum machine tracks she has been using on her previous tracks. The replacement of a drum machine will create a higher quality feel, still allowing Gengos to produce all her music by herself giving her ultimate creative control.
