Dreamland Monorail

Dreamland Monorail, a solo project by Andrew Dempsen, is emo inspired indie rock. The sound is inspired by a long list of artists and an even longer list of emotions. When Dempsen first got into music he would take his disc-man for long walks to find some quiet time to study Relient K records. While walking with their albums Dempsen figured out the vocals and taught himself how to sing Relient K songs. Then when he began writing his own songs he wrote in the same style as the emo bands he was listening to at the time. Since then Dempsen has developed his own style. His writing is now fueled by any emotion he happens to be feeling. Dempsen struggles with depression and anxiety; these struggles have provided him with a drive to create and express his emotions. Dempsen channels his emotions into songs as a way to get through the darker parts of his mind and possibly encourage someone else to look for the light at the end of the darkness.
Dempsen's love of music began at an early age. He grew up wanting to be the guy who got to sing at church, but as he became more exposed to music he figured out that what he really wanted to do was write music. When Dempsen was about 10 years old a cousin played in a punk band. His cousin showed him recordings of their live shows as Dempsen sat and watched in awe. Unlike most 10 year olds Dempsen was actually paying attention to what his cousin was showing him. He envisioned himself doing exactly what he saw his cousin doing on stage: playing music.
Currently, Dempsen is working on a new album and keeping his expectations in check. There is no set release date for his album, but there is a title: "The Balloonist". As for his expectations, Dempsen is making sure his goals for Dreamland Monorail do not get too far away from reality. With a music market that is overflowing with artists it is important to Dempsen to realize how hard it is to get vast amounts of people to listen to his music. Dreamland Monorail is well worth the listen and deserves to be more than a bedroom project.
Pre-pandemic Dreamland Monorail live shows were stripped down acoustic sets. Eventually Dempsen plans to make Dreamland Monorail into a full band. For the time being, it is just him and he is creating amazing sounds from his home. Dempsen plays guitar, mostly acoustic, but is becoming more comfortable working his way around an electric guitar. In addition to guitar he's taught himself how to use a drum machine to his advantage and just enough bass guitar to get his music out there.
