Sam Lynch

Canadian solo artist Sam Lynch makes folky pop songs that she describes as "melancholy, but human". Lynch works with other musicians to bring her visions alive in the studio and on stage.
Lynch draws inspiration from Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan and Van Morrison; however, not for their incredible works of art, but more for the childlike sense of wonder their music evokes in her. As Lynch was growing up her family always had music playing in their home.
Lynch began her journey in music as a kid doing dance. Eventually she became an adult who went to school for theater. After graduating from college Lynch got really into music, making her own. Music has always been in Lynch's life; always growing and evolving to what's now the center of her life.
Music has been with Lynch for as long as she can remember. She has a memory from elementary school that sticks out as a defining moment for her. The moment that she knew she was going to be an artist. Her fifth grade class was voting on what they thought everyone would be when they grew up. Lynch's classmates voted another kid as "most likely to become an artist", a vote that crushed 11 year old Lynch. This vote seemed to be against her, which gave her a stronger sense that she wanted to be an artist. She just did not know what type of artist she would become. Lynch eventually figured that out; she did dance and theater for years. To her, performing someone else's work was not fulfilling. Lynch wanted to perform her own art. So she became a musician. A task she takes very seriously, even though she generally is not a very serious person.
Lynch has been working on new music. Her style evolving as she learns more about music. She is set to release an LP late this summer or in early fall. Compared to the work she has out, available for her audience's listening pleasure on all streaming services, her new music has a more dynamic sound. Lynch has contrasted these heavily layered, dynamic moments with more "sparse arrangements" to create a balanced sound.
Lynch makes music as a way to communicate. "So completely mine and only mine, but at the same time [it has] an overwhelming sense of connection," said Lynch of her music.
Lynch strives to continue evolving and honing in on her sound. Lynch is working towards putting out more music that she believes in and that feels right to her.
