Reality Something

With the help of her band members and their inspirations Elena Franklin brings a unique modern take on rock n roll in a talented package called Reality Something. Franklin's inspirations are ever changing depending on who she's listening to. A major and constant source of inspiration has been Blondie. Listeners can hear the cool girl power in Franklin's voice that feels so much like Debbie Harry's famous chops. Franklin takes this oh so Blondie sound and makes it very much her own. Each musician in Reality Something brings their own inspiration and drive to the group. Kingsley Brock happens to be a skilled producer; Franklin even calls her band mate a "genius" when it comes to his producing. This leads to the perfect sound for Reality Something.
Franklin grew up in New York City listening to music whenever she could, but her whole experience as a consumer of music changed when she moved to Los Angeles. LA is a city tailor made for driving. Listening to music is an experience that can be enjoyed in full capacity while driving. The listener gets to crank up their speakers and sing their hearts out. Experiencing music in this way is what lead Franklin to the discovery that singing feels good.
In 2015 Franklin moved across the country into a home with three musicians as her room mates. One of these musicians was Reality Something guitarist Brock. At the time Brock was playing in another band that he was touring with. Touring left Franklin alone in a home full of guitars, so she learned how to play. It was a skill that only made sense to take up when left alone. A skill that lead her to a gut wrenching need to create. So she did. Franklin began writing songs in 2015; some of these songs can be found on Reality Something's first EP. These songs were recorded with their first bassist Adam Swaford. In spring of 2015 Brock joined Reality Something for good and they spread the word that their band was on the hunt for drummer. Ethan Place answered their call for a drummer. At the end of 2015 Reality Something played their first show and took every chance they got to play more shows. Davis Haley took the place of Swaford on bass; although Swaford no longer plays bass for them Reality Something still works with him on the production end of their music.
