Evan Porter

The best day of Evan Porter’s life was when his first band “Pardon My Revenge” played a tiny show to a crowd of about 50 probably drunk middle aged guys. As uneventful as this might seem to the average person this was the night Porter decided he was going to pursue music. “The feeling of being on stage and the energy is unlike anything. It’s truly incredible,” says Porter.
Porter got into music when he was eleven. His dad bought him and his his older brother, Blake Porter, a drum set. They had played drums on RockBand and played on the set at their church. Eventually Blake Porter took up guitar; he would play guitar and Evan Porter would follow along on drums. Since then Evan Porter has since taught himself, with the aid of high school band, how to be a proper drummer. He posts the occasional video of him drumming on his Instagram @evenporterdrums.
Besides coming from a family that is heavily into music, Porter finds inspiration in the work of Fever 333 drummer, Aric Improta. "It inspires me to think outside the box and do something different", says Porter on Improta's drumming style. "Because nobody wants to hear the same dang drum beat constantly... I'm looking at you Seven Nation Army," jokes Porter.
For Evan Porter, the best part of music is the community. Concerts have an amazing sense of togetherness. People do not have to be physically together for music to bring them closer. Through social media, Porter has made friends based on their common interest of metal music. By simply liking the same arrangement of sound waves people are able to set aside their differences and become friends.
“Drumming is loud, it’s in your face and it’s passionate,” says Porter. His passion for drumming and music in general shines through in his playing. He is currently putting some of that passion into his band, “Nine Iron Necktie”, which is still in the beginning phases. He plays along side his friends: vocalist Luther Moreno, bassist Adam Mathias, and guitarist Julio Lopez. Nine Iron Necktie is “kind of in ‘hibernation’ right now” seeing as every member of the band is incredibly busy. They have high hopes that 2020 will be the year that they get to record and release their music. The group has one song nearly recorded, just missing vocals. As well as a couple songs written and ready to be recorded.
