DIY Valentine

The name DIY Valentine doesn't mean much, it just sounds good... just like their music. DIY Valentine is a two piece band consisting of Jesus and Andrew. The pair has played in a couple different three piece bands, but they have found that just the two of them making music works best for them. Only having two musicians in a band is more work, but it is well worth it for the boys of DIY Valentine.
They both went to college for music, however, they are mostly self taught. Jesus took guitar lessons during his freshman year of high school, but vocally is entirely self taught. Andrew taught himself how to drum, starting on pots and pans as a toddler. In high school he joined band and his playing continued to evolve. The pair are always teaching each other new things and giving each other feedback.
The members of DIY Valentine got into music in possibly the most stereotypical 90s way: MTV and Nirvana's Nevermind. Jesus heard Nevermind when he was in middle school and something clicked for him, he has loved music since then. Andrew feels like he never chose music, it chose him. MTV helped push him towards taking hold of his natural inclination towards music and he began drumming.
DIY Valentine has a sound that does not truly fit into a genre. Their melodic, almost psychedelic sound can fit into indie rock. DIY Valentine just plays what they feel like playing regardless of the genre. The LA based band finds their inspiration in many different bands that all sound extremely different. Ranging from Arctic Monkeys and The Cure to Red Hot Chilli Peppers and the Frights they find inspiration in just about every genre besides metal.
You can listen to DIY Valentine's unique sound in their first single "Cemetery Drive" which is out on most major streaming platforms. You can expect another single in December, but if you cannot wait that long to hear more then head on over to their Instagram @diyvalentineband to see where you can see them play.
