Nectar

A sweet band with a sweet name. Nectar plays almost power pop punk. According to vocalist and guitarist Kamila Glowacki their music is, "not quite pop punk, not quite power pop". Their sound is inspired by 90's alternative bands like Go Sailor and Tiger Trap.
Nectar evolved from Glowacki's want to write her own songs after having played in other bands. She met the rest of her band through music. Drummer Jake Mont and guitarist Aaron Shults were playing in a band called Cowabunga Kid and bassist Isabel Skidmore was playing in a different punk band.
Every member of Nectar got into music so they would have an outlet for self expression. When they got into music they were met with the warm embrace of a supportive music community in their hometown of Champaign, Illinois.
Nectar is a mostly self taught band; Mont, Glowacki and Shults all played in their high school bands, but are self taught in the way they play now.
Glowacki says the visual aspect of Nectar's music is just as important as their musicality. All of their artwork and photos represent their music in someway. Glowacki was an art student so she puts her talents to work in her band; she make all their cover art.
You can listen to Nectar's "up-beat and sweet, but sad" music on just about any streaming service. Or you can head out to a show and support the band in person. Nectar will be playing at the PV Annex in Champaign, IL on October 23. They are playing with Jack M. Senff and  Holly Pinto. Check out their Instagram @nectar_il  for more shows.
