Tugboat Captain

Tugboat Captain is a four piece band based in London. Their lead singer discribes their band as, "Half as good as Pavement".
Tugboat Captain is made up of lead singer and guitarist Alexander Sokolow, bassist Josh Cobb, drummer Georgia Mancey, and Sloppy Giuseppe who plays keys, bassoon, and harp.
The members of Tugboat Captain all got into music as a way to avoid their academic responsibilities as children. Music eventually became a form of escapism and self expression.
Tugboat Captain finds it difficult to put their music into a genre. Their goal is just to write music that doesn't conform to principals of the top charts. They aim to give their fans an experience that is unlike anything music has ever given them. Tugboat Captain occasionally refers to their music as "naut-pop for rock dads" or "DIY Pop". Their wide array of influences truly makes their music what it: something new, something you've never heard. In terms of song writing, Alexander Sokolow has always been under the influence of Elliott Smith. According to Sokolow Tugboat Captain musically takes inspiration from everything to the b-side of Abby Road to Handel's The Messiah.
Tugboat Captain as a whole are strong supporters of the music community. When they play shows they always invite smaller bands to come play as well. Their goal is to provide a supportive community in the DIY music scene.
You can listen to Tugboat Captain anywhere... no really anywhere, even on Netflix. They had a song used in a Japanese reality tv show called "Terrance House". Be sure to follow their socials as well @tugboat_captain. If you happen to be in London in October you can catch them at The Lexington on the 21st.
