My Boyfriend's Terrible Band
My Boyfriend's Terrible Band was formed during a bout of depression experienced by guitarist and vocalist Scott Jones. Luckily he made it through and the rough time ended up being a good thing for him. Even though he enjoys his job, Jones realized his work was becoming the only thing he ever did and he wanted to change that. For a while Scott Jones had been been messing around with Garage Band and playing guitar. Although he spent his free time making music he never properly wrote anything until he had a bad first date. Jones spent the night venting his issues to this poor girl who at the end of the date confronted him about how he'd behaved. The following day was spent sulking about how he'd treated this nice girl who didn't deserve to be treated as his own personal therapist. The day was far from wasted; his day of depression brought My Boyfriend's Terrible Band their first single: Last Night. Jones is still friends with the girl and she's yet to find out the song is about her.
After Scott Jones had written Last Night he began to search for people to play with. This proved to be a difficult task. Fortunately he found his bassist Autumn Mariano who was playing in a cover band. Jones more or less stole Mariano and the rest of that cover band to come play in My Boyfriend's Terrible Band. Now, Jones has a full band with Anthony Mariano on drums and Christian Shepard on guitar.
The band's name is an homage of sorts to Scott Jones' friend's band. He loves his friend, but his buddy's band kind of sucks; they're just not his taste, he refers to this band as "My friend's terrible band". When Jones was trying to think of a good name for his new band a friend brought this up. His friend told him, "NO! It has to be my boyfriend's terrible band. Cause you've always got those dudes in [crappy] bands and their girlfriends sit there and support them even though they hate it.".
The original sound of My Boyfriend's Terrible Band was along the lines of cowboy rock in the beginning, however, the band has a more beachy surf rock sound.
