Hugh Effo

With Matthew Scotch on vocals and rhythm guitar, John Reid on lead guitar and backing vocals, Jimmy Nickerson on bass, and Hank Smith on drums. Hugh Effo plays "butter punk"; their music is a perfect blend of garage rock and punk, but they like to put heavy focus the smooth changes and technical moments. That smooth sound is where the butter comes in. Their sound is inspired by the sounds of bands like The Stooges, Richard Hell and the Voidoids and David Liebe.
The members of Hugh Effo will tell you crazy stories about how they got their start in music. The stories are a roller coaster ride full of ups and downs, each one crazier than the next. Matthew Scotch was created by lighting striking a jar of peanut butter that was used by Iggy Pop in a manic act on stage in 1970 Cincinnati. They might tell you their guitarist was birthed in the same way Zeus birthed Athena... a splitting head ache followed by the crack of an axe to the head. Instead of Hephaistos splitting open Zeus' head and there was Athena in full armor, it was the members of the Mothers of Invention wielding the axe upon Frank Zappa and out came John Reid clinging to his electric guitar. The band will also tell you that Hank Smith is out for revenge on Ozzy Osbourne after having reincarnated from the bat who's head Ozzy infamously bit off on stage. Finally, Hugh Effo will tell you about the creation of Jimmy Nickerson's music career; after some drama with the Solar Federation Nickerson was born. After being born Rush's drummer, Neil Peart was so inspired by Nickerson's existence that he wrote an entire album about Jimmy Nickerson; this album is called 2112. Nickerson was so flattered that he set out on his own journey of a music career.
