The Plastic Beach

Made up of guitarist and vocalist Lily Paul, drummer Saarah Fattouh, and bassist Mecca Terrell, The Plastic Beach is punk pop band from the metro Detroit area. The Plastic Beach mixes their unique punk pop sound with surfy elements. The girls of The Plastic Beach take inspiration from strong female fronted bands like Bikini Kill, Blondie, No Doubt, and The Regrettes. As well as the typically classic punk bands and young artists like Billie Ellish that show even young people can become successful. Each of the girls have been into music since they were very young. Family has influenced them, whether it be their parents encouragement, or their grandmother's purchase of a twenty dollar children's piano.
The name The Plastic Beach not only fits their big garage rock meets surf rock sound, it was also inspired by the Gorillaz's  title "Welcome To the World of The Plastic Beach".
Music brings people of all different walks of life together. Whether its making music or just liking a certain type of music. For Lily Paul that experience of having something in common with a whole bar full of people, or even an entire arena full of people, who are all vastly different is a huge driving force in her love of music. For Saarah Fattouh that driving force is the many different aspects of a song. Every song has different layers to unfold and discover more meaning under the initial beat and lyrics. For Mecca Terrell its simply the element of expression and experimentation. Music allows anyone from anywhere to express whatever they are feeling however they see fit.
Reminiscent of both 2000's pop and 90's Riot Grrrl jams The Plastic Beach makes music that's enjoyable for everyone. They describe their sound as "garage rock meets Dick Dale". You can listen to them on Spotify and most other major streaming services. The Plastic Beach will be playing in Ferndale, Michigan at the Front Porch Festival on June 22.
