The Juniper Berries
Ashland's very own indie garage rock band, The Juniper Berries, brings a catchy pop element into a more chaotic garage rock tune. Each artist in the band brings their own drive and inspiration from their own personal likings into the music. Keyboard and synth player Nia Myers takes elements of folk, soul and funk and brings it into Juniper Berries. She also finds inspiration in Amy Winehouse's work. Josh Strim, singer-song writer and guitarist, pulls elements from Elliot Smith, The Beatles, and many classic pop artists. Drummer John Kealiinohomoku finds inspiration in all music, from metal and tech drumming to low-fi hip hop and jazz. Where as bassist Myles "The Heat" Simpson finds his inspiration and in Motown classics and occasionally an arpeggio bass line, depending on the song.
Juniper Berries has had a few changes in their line up, which makes their music an ever changing beast. Bands change, they evolve into something much different than what they start as. As Stirm said, the listener often relies on their first impression of a band and expects the artist to stay that way through out their entire career. This is almost never the case.
You can catch The Juniper Berries tomorrow(4/20/19) in Eugene, Oregon at the High House and support their love of playing to people who have no obligation to like their music. If you are not in the area you can listen to them on most major streaming services. They are currently working on their second album.
