Retrolux

Indie electronic band, Retrolux, is made up of Anna James and Shaye Maynard. James sings while Maynard plays keys and sample pads. The band was originally named "Retronym", but was changed to Retrolux after discovering there was already a spotify artist called, "Retronym". Retrolux is more fitting for the group, even though there isn't much meaning. Besides the obvious, "Retro" and "luxury" which are two things Retrolux definitely tends to play up.
Anna James got into music at age 10, learning guitar because she wanted to be just like Taylor Swift. At 14 she  began to play with a group of kids from summer camp. Her little group at summer camp led to her booking small shows in downtown Gainesville. When Anna James was 17 she came across a Craigslist ad posted by Shaye Maynard in hopes of starting an indie band. Their age difference hindered their plans. The pair later met again at a party and decided to work together. They exchanged info and have been Retrolux since. Retrolux is not only a band, but a friendship. As cheesy as it may sound, a trip down memory lane on the band's past shows the growth in their friendship as well as musicianship.
Retrolux is inspired by Sylvan Esso and Louis the Child. Anna James takes her inspiration from especially strong songwriters such as Charile XCX, Billie Ellish, and Clairo. Shaye Maynard finds his inspiration in the work of much different artists than James. The artists he finds inspiration in are Odesza, Childish Gambino, and Bombay Bicycle Club, to name a few.
You can listen to Retrolux on most major streaming services. Be sure to show them a little love and follow them on Instagram @retroluxsound.
