Ten Minute Detour

Indie rock band Ten Minute Detour takes the cliche "poised to make some noise" and puts some meaning behind it. Lead singer and guitarist Andrew Shier, lead guitarist Jordan MacNeil, drummer Kaol Porter, bassist Jake Rowinski, and key board player, percussionist and vocalist Matt Drake have a wonderful sound that is something along the lines of what you would expect to be played in the end credits of a John Hughes film.
Andrew Shier, inspired by his older brother, began exploring drums and guitar, after having taken piano lessons for years. In college Shier started experimenting with recording, something he kept up until he joined a band.
Jordan MacNeil met Andrew Shier after he posted an ad on Kijiji, the Crigslist of Canada, looking for a singer to which Shier replied. Matt Drake and Kaol Porter met on Kijiji as well. The boys jammed together and eventually formed a band. After a literal ten minute detour due to construction on the way to their jam space the boys took "Ten Minute Detour" as their official name.
Influenced by singers like Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder, who aimed to be intimate, lead singer Andrew Shier eventually found his sound. Usually an inspiration can not be directly pointed out until after the recording process. A close listen typically reveals a riff that can be pin pointed from a certain song.
