File Thirteen
File 13 is a three piece band from Vancouver, Washington. With Joel Koehler on drums, Will Gaines on bass, and Karlson Drendel screaming his heart out, File 13 has a very “Seattle- Sub-pop” sound. Having been friends since middle school Koehler and Drendel decided to make something out of their shared love of music. After playing together in jam sessions throughout high school, they saw a chance to record after graduation.
Will Gaines, the newest edition to File 13 jumped in on bass to play their first live show; an unpaid, much appreciated gig to their friends and family. They realized Gaines was everything they were missing and invited him to join File 13.
Now, having gained a bassist, File 13 sat down to record their first EP. As of early October 2018 “The 440 EP” was a “nearly-finished project”. “The 440 EP” has been developing over the course of a year, even if the recording process has been slow, the finished project is sure to be great. File 13 takes influences from artists such as Blink-182, Nirvana, Toto, and Neil Young. Their general vibe is ruled by heavy indie and punk rock influences.
With a name deriving from a World War 2 term for the trash can, File 13 has a philosophy that is far from trashy. A philosophy that seems to be shared with many other punk bands; a want to bring diverse communities together through music. Coming from a politically polarized generation File 13 understands the importance of bringing people together to see a common ground. File 13 aims to make their music a safe, inviting place for everyone, regardless of where they come from.
